Well, if you’re going to give it to an LMP1... The TS050 showed that it had serious performance at Me Mans, and almost made it to the end. And, it was on a much lower budget than the 919, which was also an evolution of a 2014 car and powerplant IIRC, instead of a new car and powerplant.

Sure, there was the R18 as a new car, but that didn’t work well, and was an old powerplant...

I guess I saw a disconnect between the award and what that car ended up doing, or not doing.

It’s supposed to be the Race Car of The Year. And yet it lost a race it almost assuredly won.

There’s a lot more that goes into a race car than just the performance. There is a lot of really cool innovation in the TS050, things which will move the entire automotive industry forward. If you judge a car based on results you ignore a ton of truly legendary vehicles. The Audi Quattro S1 is iconic. It was thoroughly outclassed by the 205 T16 and Delta S4 and only ever won one rally. The only race the Mazda 787 ever won was Le Mans in 1991. Raw results don’t make a great racecar, the innovations and team behind it make a great car. Sure they missed out on the big one, that doesn’t make the car any less deserving of this award.
